About Us
Mohs micrographic surgery is a highly specialized procedure for the complete removal of skin cancer.
This method differs from all other surgical methods of treating skin cancer. Detailed mapping techniques and complete microscopic examination of 100% of the tissue margin removed allows the surgeon to remove every cancer cell. In contrast, standard surgery techniques look at <1% of the margins, providing only an estimate of whether the margins are clear.
The South Texas Skin Cancer Center, headed by Dr. Ryan O’Quinn, is a referral center that receives patients from dermatologists, plastic surgeons, oculoplastic surgeons, oncologists and primary care physicians from San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country and the entire South Texas region. Dr. O’Quinn is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon who specializes in the prevention, early diagnosis, and definitive treatment of skin cancers. He has treated many thousands of challenging malignancies since beginning his private practice in 2002. Dr. O’Quinn very much enjoys the clinical side of medicine and is fully dedicated to providing the best care for his patients.
